Well, it won't be not exactly "drive in", but this new store front will certainly be the equivalent of the "fast food" approach for your cosmetic medical procedure. According to an article on the New York Times, a new clinic is opening on the streets of New York that won't require you to book an appointment. You simply walk in and get your shot of Botox, and walk out. It's that simple.
Smoothmed will open in July 2007.
The clinic will only do Botox shots. Each first time patient will have a short evaluation which may lengthen the appointment to about 30 minutes; return patients will be done and out in as little as 15 minutes. The idea is to cater to folks who would like to try these injections, but are living today's fast-paced lifestyle. In addition, it will appeal to those who like a spur of the moment approach. Individuals can make a quick decision and try the procedure out, with minimal waiting.
The two founding doctors, Dr. Andrew I. Elkwood, and and his business partner, Dr. Michael I. Rose, believe that making the service readily available will expand the market for the procedure.
Botox is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in America today. As many as a million patients seek this treatment every year.
Botox does require a medical practitioner but don't look for your health insurance to cover it. This is vanity medicine, driven by the push to look young. So, how much should you expect to pay? At Smoothmed, your bill will be $250 to $300 for the forehead or eye area and roughly $150 for the lip area. Since each treatment only lasts for a few months, expect to have to repeat the procedure 3 to 4 times a year.
