Insurance against Pet Damage

I am a leasing manager for rental homes. A prospective tenant wishing to rent one of our homes has four show dogs. Our main concern is possible damage to the home caused by the dogs. Is there such a thing as Pet Damage Insurance that these tenants can purchase to protect our homeowners from any damage that might be incurred during their tenancy?

Answer:

Absolutely. Most homeowners or renters insurance will allow for a special endorsement to increase liability for pets. While it isn't technically a separate insurance policy in this case, it should allow for the kind of coverage that you would like to see as property manager. Now, this is only true as long as the show dogs are not considered a "dangerous breed." Then, all bets are off. If an animal is deemed a dangerous breed, it can be very difficult to find insurance that will be willing to cover damages.
