Health Insurance for Veterans

My husband just turned 82 and is a veteran of WW2. He did not sign up for Medicare when he was eligible and now finds the cost to do so is prohibitive. Can you suggest where he might find the best deal on insurance? He is already covered under his retirement from the federal government by BC/BS. However, it generally leaves him owing several hundred dollars for any testing or doctor visits.

Answer:

Have you tried checking with your local veterans' association? They may be able to give you some ideas. I'd also try speaking with your state's insurance commissioner to get some other ideas. Unfortunately, as we age the cost of health insurance does go up. But perhaps someone can suggest some alternatives that might suit your budget.
