Insurance for Foreign Vehicles

My son is stationed with the army in Europe. He wants to buy a new SUV. He was quoted insurance rates through USAA that seemed to be extremely high. Are there any competitive US auto insurers doing business in Europe? He plans to return to the States in 2 years and bring the vehicle with him.

I suspect that your son will have to consider going with a local European insurance company if he really wants to get better rates. He might also want to speak with other Army personnel that have owned vehicles abroad, to see if someone has found better rates elsewhere. However, this is a unique situation and as such the insurer holds more cards than your son does.
