Hurt by Son's Driving Record

I have been paying insurance on my Grand Am for 5 years. I am divorced. My ex-husband let our 24-year old son drive his truck. My son has had several accidents and speeding tickets while driving my ex-husband's truck. Lately, my insurance went up because the insurance company noted that my son lives with me. It was his dad's truck and he is an adult, so why do I have to be punished?

Answer:

Is your son listed on your car insurance? If so, this would be one way that his driving record can affect your insurance. Also, if your policy allows for "occasional drivers," your insurance company could be assuming that your son could get behind the wheel of your vehicle and do the same thing that he's done with your ex-husband's.
