Getting Flood Insurance after Ivan
My home in Navarre, Fla., was destroyed in Hurricane Ivan. When applying for a building permit I was informed that the property is in a Coastal Barrier Resource Area and therefore not eligible for flood insurance thru the NFIP. This was a total shock to me, as this was not mentioned when we bought the home. I can't get a loan to rebuild without flood insurance.
Do you know of any companies that provide flood insurance in this situation?
Answer:
This is an extremely unusual problem! Given what you've said, I'd do a couple of things:
- Talk to the Florida State Department of Insurance and see if they can provide you with some assistance or direct you to appropriate insurance providers.
- Talk to local insurance agents or brokers that are familiar with flood insurance and helping clients who are looking for insurance after hurricane damage.
