Car Destroyed by Accidental Fire

My car was totalled by the car parked next to me when it caught on fire. We both only had PL/PD coverage. His insurance claims they are not liable for my loss because it was not his fault that his car fire destroyed my vehicle. The insurance company did have a fire investigator come out, but I was being told that my loss would not be covered even before the fire investigator’s report was done.

Answer:

I can’t say what kind of loss this would be categorized as. Each insurance company will have slightly different claims procedures and that is part of what creates confusion when you attempt to submit a claim. Having said that, it does sound as if a half-hour’s free legal advice would be helpful for you. I’d select a lawyer that does a lot of car insurance work.
