Deductions from Long Term Disability

Do you pay Federal and State taxes on the monies received from Long term disability checks?  When I received my check, I paid for Medicare and Social Security but not Federal taxes?

Answer:

If you pay for your disability coverage out of your own pocket with "after tax" dollars, you will not pay taxes on the benefit that you receive. However, if your employer pays your disability premium for you, then you will pay taxes.

Deductions for Medicare and Social Security are not "taxes" per se. That's why you still pay them even if you aren't paying any tax on the long term disabilty benefit.
