Mandatory Inspections Before Obtaining Homeowners Insurance?

Do you believe there should be mandatory home inspections by a licensed & insured home inspection company prior to an insurance company insuring home buyers?

Answer:

I suspect this could just make the whole process of getting insurance more expensive and less attractive for consumers. As a result, while the intention might be to reduce claims for the insurer, it could also reduce business.  I suspect the insurance industry keeps this in mind, and that the aggressive position that many companies take on claims is due, in part, to the fact that it's easy to get insurance.

I personally think that if the insurer is willing to take the risk, then it is up to them -- although, if we all "proved" our insurability before we got insurance, perhaps the claims process could be less adversarial and frought with having to prove yourself at that point.
