Is This Policy In Force?

My mother just passed away on january 10th, 2007. I was going through her papers and found a life insurance policy. I am helping my father with this matter. Could you please tell me if this policy is in force and paid-up?

Answer:

This insurance policy will only be "paid up" if the policy is whole or universal life. Otherwise, it is a type of term insurance, and it will only be inforce if your mother was still paying premiums.

The only way to know if the policy is in force and paid up is to contact the insurance company directly. The company's name should be on the policy.

If you are having difficulties finding the policy, contact your state's Department of Insurance. You can find your Department of Insurance by clicking on the search tool on the homepage at the NAIC website.
