Pet Insurance - apparently everything is preexisting!

Does anyone have anything good to say about pet insurance? My little terrier has been covered for 3 years now. Nothing was said to me about pre-existing conditions when I signed up for dog health coverage but now every time I make a claim and poor Oliver needs care I am told his conditions are pre-existing and not covered by the insurance!

Is there any course of action I can take?

Sounds very fishy... Are they getting information from your vet re: your pet's health? And if so, can your vet provide you with any information or report that he or she gave to your insurer? I'd certainly be making use of my vet to "prove" by your pet's vet records that the conditions were not pre-existing. If you continue to get this kind of treatment, you might have to sue.

Again, even though you are a good client and pay your premiums on time, your insurer is not really on your side when you make a claim. When you do make a claim, you've just become a liability to your insurer.

Having said that, from what I can tell, pet insurance is even worse to deal with than health insurance for humans.

Thanks! I guess it is a matter talking to the vet to "prove" my insurance claim. Nothing is easy anymore is it? -lol

I was browsing the site and found your article on pet insurance. Wish I had read that first. I may have been better off banking my money. -GG

Pet Assure is the solution to Pet Insurance which I found and have been using. And there are no exclusions on anything including preexisting conditions. There is also no claims,so you dont have to run after the pet insurance company and get your vet involved. The only problem with it, which i was very worried about  is that you can only use a vet in their network. I was nervous about it, because i really liked my vet but I did it anyway, to save me the extra xcash. turned out I like my new vet just as much. they also give you discounts at pet stores, i dont use much of it but every once in a while when i want to spoil my dog -the discounts help me save cash there too.

Yes Pet Assure isn't really a pet insurance provider, but more of a pet health discount club.  Every Pet Insurance provider I've come across doesn't cover pre-existing conditions.  So if you are looking getting pet insurance it's better to get it early.  I'm personally very happy with Pet First, (they saved me having to put my cat to sleep, when she got hit by a car)

I guess www.embracepetinsurance.com will be a better one.

You see, i had my collegue registering into that and having the insurance for his pet from there, he is quite satisfied with that.

Now nothing much can be done in your case. Each company offers somewhat different, some specialize in cats and dogs, which owners of other animals may not find useful, and others may charge premiums too high for the probability of certain illnesses. There are insurance plans available that will be better suited to your pet than others - so shop around and find the best one.
